Amazing progress Eugine! Coming along nicely! The motion blurs were really well done, a lot of camera pans on still shots do look a bit odd, I don't know how you would achieve a 'boil' in stop motion but it could be worth an attempt to see whether it looks a bit less 'static'

My other advice is to make a 'clean plate' for each shot, this is where you stage the shot, without the characters so you can use it as a background in post (useful for deleting the bluetac in areas where you don't want it visible.

Eugine1a2b responds:

Thank you! Yeah I did have some trouble with the stills but I'll experiment with finding ways to boil. And yes, a clean plate seems like a perfect idea!

Such a beautiful style! I hope you do more of these, this is really fun

They killed Kolani! Those bastards!!

Owen responds:

RIP Kolani

I know I gave a little feedback the other day but I really wanted to write a full review out of respect for how great this is and how much work you put into it.

Knowing that you're planning on potentially continuing it I wanted to put in my personal opinions on stuff. I get the video game voice thing is what you're going for but I found it cut into my ability to hear the notes. Could be a volume control issue or could be the spacing. Maybe look into ways to harmonize the repetitive voice with the backtrack. So the still make the same sounds it's just songlike.

I mentioned how I found the staging was flat, and there were opportunities for good cutaways or 'cutscenes' that ties in with the same game formula. Your FX and Character design were on point. I REALLY like the villain and his vehicle. It's a super cool design that I could almost see as a toy or something.

I think over all you could get some more appeal with very little effort. Like small background loops to just add a little extra motion repeating assets so it's not a massive undertaking. I am interested to see whether you stick with the current 'ui' or not but looking forward to episode 2!

PS: that guitar lightning was freaking sweet

EDIT: So I realized you did do the background loop stuff, I think it mostly got overshadowed by the text boxes, so maybe take that into consideration with where you put effort on loops. (like animate around the text boxes so your work doesnt get obscured.

Joe-Mega responds:

This is definitely the most useful criticism I've received so far, and I really appreciate it. I have an Idea for the voices that I think will solve the problems people have with them... either that or I'll piss everyone off even worse XD I guess I'll just have to see if people like it or not.

Im definitely gonna try and put more life and movement into the backgrounds.

And as for little cutscenes, I think that's a rad idea! Now I just gotta try and actually make some that look nice XD

Thank you so much for the feedback, it really means a lot.

I really respect the fact you had a foreign language consultant. "Flat out like a lizard drinking" had me rolling. Only wish you'd included the timeless "we ain't here to fuck spiders"

cool outro bro

Very thankful this got preserved. Thanks Cam + Tom

You has some good compositing in the scene and that carried this work a lot. As far as animation goes I think tightening the timing would go a long way. The humans key poses were very static and the timing seemed very linear. I think you hard the right idea at the start with the slowness but it needed to ramp up at the end. Recreating the scene it is very much slow to fast. The bite and head sway should really have had stronger favoring towards the extremes. I also think some secondary action on the mans corpse during the headsway would have gone a long way (making him ragdoll a bit) You seemed to get it on one of the swings and then stopped which was sad. Good luck with future animations :)

I can't believe this site is free

This was awesome. Really good choreography and composition. You've gotten really good at these action sequences! I agree with what @crashgen said. Backgrounds and colors are awesome. The quick cuts in this give it a lot of energy. I've got to say I think the part I enjoyed most about this from a technical perspective is how well you used colour at about 0:16 you go from a light slo-mo style shot to a fast dark shot. That gradient effect you did with speed lines is definitely a technique I'm going to try experimenting with myself. :)
